Odes From Horace. - [1]to Titus Valgius. Book The Second, Ode The Ninth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Not ceaseless falls the heavy showerA
That drenches deep the furrow'd leaB
Nor do continual tempests pourC
On the vex'd Caspian's billowy seaB
Nor yet the ice in silent horror standsD
Thro' all the passing months on pale Armenia's LandsD
-
Fierce storms do not for ever bendE
The Mountain's vast and labouring oakF
Nor from the ash its foliage rendE
With ruthless whirl and widowing strokeF
But Valgius thou with grief's eternal laysG
Mournest thy vanish'd joys in MYSTES' shorten'd daysG
-
When Vesper trembles in the westE
Or flies before the orient sunH
Rise the lone sorrows of thy breastE
Not thus did aged Nestor shunH
Consoling strains nor always sought the tombI
Where sunk his filial Hopes in life and glory's bloomI
-
Not thus the lovely Troilus slainJ
His Parents wept the Princely BoyK
Nor thus his Sisters mourn'd in vainJ
The blasted Flower of sinking TroyK
Cease then thy fond complaints Augustus' fameL
The new Cesarian wreaths let thy lov'd voice proclaimL
-
So shall the listening World be toldE
Medus and cold Niphates guideE
With all their mighty Realms controul'dE
Their late proud waves in narrower tideE
That in scant space their steeds the Scythians reinJ
Nor dare transgress the bounds our Victor Arms ordainJ
