You that decipher out the FateA
Of humane Off springs from the SkiesB
What mean these Infants which of lateA
Spring from the Starrs of Chlora's EyesB
-
Her Eyes confus'd and doubled oreC
With Tears suspended ere they flowD
Seem bending upwards to restoreC
To Heaven whence it came their WoeD
-
When molding of the watry SphearsB
Slow drops unty themselves awayE
As if she with those precious TearsB
Would strow the ground where Strephon layE
-
Yet some affirm pretending ArtF
Her Eyes have so her Bosome drown'dG
Only to soften near her HeartF
A place to fix another WoundG
-
And while vain Pomp does her restrainH
Within her solitary BowrC
She courts her self in am'rous RainH
Her self both Danae and the ShowrC
-
Nay others bolder hence esteemI
Joy now so much her Master grownJ
That whatsoever does but seemI
Like Grief is from her Windows thrownJ
-
Nor that she payes while she survivesB
To her dead Love this Tribute dueK
But casts abroad these DonativesB
At the installing of a newK
-
How wide they dream The Indian SlavesB
That sink for Pearl through Seas profoundG
Would find her Tears yet deeper WavesB
And not of one the bottom soundG
-
I yet my silent Judgment keepL
Disputing not what they believeM
But sure as oft as Women weepL
It is to be suppos'd they grieveM
