While you walk the water's edgeA
turning over conceptsB
I can't envision the honking buoyC
serves notice that at any timeD
the wind may changeE
the reef bell clattersB
its treble monotone deaf as CassandraF
to any note but warning The oceanG
cumbered by no business more urgentH
than keeping open old accountsB
that never balancedI
goes on shuffling its millenniumsB
of quartz granite and basaltJ
It behavesB
toward the permutations of noveltyC
driftwood and shipwreck last night'sB
beer cans spilt oil the coughed upK
residue of plastic with randomL
impartiality playing catch or tagM
ot touch last like a terrierN
turning the same thing over and overN
over and over For the ocean nothingO
is beneath considerationG
The housesB
of so many mussels and periwinklesB
have been abandoned here it's hopelessB
to know which to salvage InsteadP
I keep a lookout for beach glassB
amber of Budweiser chrysopraseB
of Almad n and Gallo lapisB
by way of no getting around itQ
I'm afraid Phillips'B
Milk of Magnesia with now and then a rareR
translucent turquoise or blurred amethystS
of no known originG
The processB
goes on forever they came from sandT
they go back to gravelU
along with treasuriesB
of Murano the buttressedV
astonishments of ChartresB
which even now are readyingO
for being turned over and over as gravelyC
and gradually as an intellectW
engaged in the hazardousB
redefinition of structuresB
no one has yet looked atX
