Garrison Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACADEDCFEFGG

FREEDOM S first champion in our fettered landA
Nor politician nor base citizenB
Could gibbet thee nor silence nor withstandA
Thy trenchant and emancipating penC
The patriot Lincoln snatched with steady handA
Writing his name and thine on parchment whiteD
Midst war s resistless and ensanguined floodE
Then held that proclamation high in sightD
Before his fratricidal country menC
Freedom henceforth throughout the land for allF
And sealed the instrument with his own bloodE
Bowing his mighty strength for slavery s fallF
Whilst thou stanch friend of largest libertyG
Survived its ruin and our peace to seeG
