Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH BFIJKL MNN OPQR M

'A closed window looks downA
on a dirty courtyard and Black peopleB
call across or scream across or walk acrossC
defying physics in the stream of their willD
-
Our world is full of soundE
Our world is more lovely than anyone'sF
tho we suffer and kill each otherG
and sometimes fail to walk the airH
-
We are beautiful peopleB
With African imaginationsF
full of masks and dances and swelling chantsI
with African eyes and noses and armsJ
tho we sprawl in gray chains in a placeK
full of winters when what we want is sunL
-
We have been capturedM
and we labor to make our getaway intoN
the ancient image into a newN
-
Correspondence with ourselvesO
and our Black family We need magicP
now we need the spells to raise upQ
return destroy and create What will beR
-
the sacred wordM
