To Laura Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGHG IDID GJGJ ECCC

Cease Laura cease suspect no moreA
This careless heart has learnt to loveB
Because on yonder lonely shoreA
I still at pensive evening roveC
-
Because of Henry's worth I speakD
With eager warmth and sparkling eyeE
Because his favourite haunts I seekD
And still o'erjoyed to meet him flyE
-
But Laura should my faltering tongueF
Refuse to speak in Henry's praiseG
My trembling voice deny the songH
When Henry claims his favourite laysG
-
When Henry comes should I neglectI
With smiles the welcome youth to seekD
But meet him full of cold respectI
While conscious blushes paint my cheekD
-
Should I when Ella shares his praiseG
Heave deeply drawn but smothered sighsJ
And when on me he deigns to gazeG
Fix on the earth my conscious eyesJ
-
Then I'll no more thy charge denyE
No more thy tender fears reproveC
Then Laura heave compassion's sighC
For mine will be the sigh of loveC
