This faded lip may oft to thee | B |
As gay a smile my Anna wear | C |
As when in youth from sorrow free | B |
I only shed the transient tear | C |
- | |
And oft chill Autumn's varying day | D |
Resembles April's genial hours | E |
And glitters with the noontide ray | D |
Though oftener dark with clouds and showers | E |
- | |
And when I join the social throng | F |
This heart as warmly seems to glow | G |
As when my pensive early song | F |
Was only tuned to fancied woe | G |
- | |
And oft we see gay ivy's wreath | H |
The tree with brilliant bloom o'erspread | D |
When part its leaves and gaze beneath | H |
We find the hidden tree is dead | D |
