This faded lip may oft to theeB
As gay a smile my Anna wearC
As when in youth from sorrow freeB
I only shed the transient tearC
-
And oft chill Autumn's varying dayD
Resembles April's genial hoursE
And glitters with the noontide rayD
Though oftener dark with clouds and showersE
-
And when I join the social throngF
This heart as warmly seems to glowG
As when my pensive early songF
Was only tuned to fancied woeG
-
And oft we see gay ivy's wreathH
The tree with brilliant bloom o'erspreadD
When part its leaves and gaze beneathH
We find the hidden tree is deadD
