Ode, Written On The Opening Of The Last Campaign Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHIHJKLK MNMNOPOQRSBSEOEO

Spring thy impatient bloom restrainA
Nor wake so soon thy genial pow'rB
For deeds of death must hail thy reignA
And clouds of fate around thee low'rB
Alas not all thy store of charmsC
For patriot hearts can comfort findD
Or lull to peace the dread alarmsC
Which rack the friends of human kindD
In vain thy balmy breath to meE
Scents with its sweets the ev'ning galeF
In vain the violet's charms I seeE
Or fondly mark thy primrose paleF
To me thy softest zephyrs breatheG
Of sorrow's soul distracting toneH
To me thy most attractive wreathI
Seems ting'd with human blood aloneH
Arrest thy steps thou source of loveJ
Thou genial friend of joy and lifeK
Let not thy smile propitious proveL
To works of carnage scenes of strifeK
Bid Winter all his frowns recallM
And back his icy footsteps traceN
Again the soil in frost inthrallM
And check the War fiend's murd'rous chaceN
Ah fruitless pray'r thy hand divineO
MUST on the teeming season leadP
And contrast dire at War's red shrineO
Must bid unnumber'd victims bleedQ
But not in vain if on this hourR
The fate of Freedom shall dependS
If o'er this earth th' Eternal Pow'rB
The scale of Justice now extendS
For then O Spring thy sun shall seeE
The patriot flame triumphant shineO
GALLIA shall bid the world be freeE
And WAR his blood stain'd throne resignO
