Ballad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED AFAF GHGH IJIJ KFKF LMNM OCOE

Round youthful Henry's restless bedA
His weeping friends and parents pressedB
But she who raised his languid headA
He loved far more than all the restB
-
Fond mutual love their bosoms firedC
And nearly dawned their bridal dayD
When every hope at once expiredE
For Henry on his death bed layD
-
The fatal truth the sufferer readA
In weeping Lucy's downcast eyeF
And must I must I then he saidA
Ere thou art mine my Lucy dieF
-
No deign to grant my last last prayerG
'T would soothe thy lover's parting breathH
Wouldst thou with me to church repairG
Ere yet I feel the stroke of deathH
-
For trust me love I shall my lifeI
With something like to joy resignJ
If I but once may call thee wifeI
And dying claim and hail thee mineJ
-
He ceased and Lucy checked the thoughtK
That he might at the altar dieF
The prayer with such true love was fraughtK
How could she such a prayer denyF
-
They reached the church her cheek was wanL
With chilling fears of coming woeM
But triumph when the rites beganN
Lent Henry's cheek a flattering glowM
-
The nuptial knot was scarcely tiedO
When Henry's eye strange lustre firedC
She's mine she's mine he faltering criedO
And in that throb of joy expiredE
