The Modern Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBB BBBBB CCDDC BBEEE

Oh what a kissA
With filial passion overcharged is thisA
To this misgiving breastB
The child runs as a child ne'er ran to restB
Upon the light heart and the unoppressedB
-
Unhoped unsoughtB
A little tenderness this mother thoughtB
The utmost of her meedB
She looked for gratitude content indeedB
With thus much that her nine years' love had boughtB
-
Nay even with lessC
This mother giver of life death peace distressC
Desired ah not so muchD
Thanks as forgiveness and the passing touchD
Expected and the slight the brief caressC
-
Oh filial lightB
Strong in these childish eyes these new these brightB
Intelligible stars Their raysE
Are near the constant earth guides in the mazeE
Natural true keen in this dusk of daysE
