San Lorenzo Giustiniani's Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBA CDEEC FFGGF HHIIH JJHHJ

I had not seen my son's dear faceA
He chose the cloister by God's graceA
Since it had come to full flower timeB
I hardly guessed at its perfect primeB
That folded flower of his dear faceA
-
Mine eyes were veiled by mists of tearsC
When on a day in many yearsD
One of his Order came I thrilledE
Facing I thought that face fulfilledE
I doubted for my mists of tearsC
-
His blessing be with me for everF
My hope and doubt were hard to severF
That altered face those holy weedsG
I filled his wallet and kissed his beadsG
And lost his echoing feet for everF
-
If to my son my alms were givenH
I know not and I wait for HeavenH
He did not plead for child of mineI
But for another Child divineI
And unto Him it was surely givenH
-
There is One alone who cannot changeJ
Dreams are we shadows visions strangeJ
And all I give is given to OneH
I might mistake my dearest sonH
But never the Son who cannot changeJ
