Parentage Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBBC DEEDDE

When Augustus Caesar legislated against the unmarried citizens of Rome he declared them to be in some sort slayers of the peopleA
-
Ah no not theseB
These who were childless are not they who gaveC
So many dead unto the journeying waveC
The helpless nurslings of the cradling seasB
Not they who doomed by infallible decreesB
Unnumbered man to the innumerable graveC
-
But those who slayD
Are fathers Theirs are armies Death is theirsE
The death of innocences and despairsE
The dying of the golden and the greyD
The sentence when these speak it has no NayD
And she who slays is she who bears who bearsE
