An Unmarked Festival Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDCDE FGFGG HIHII JHJHH KHKHHThere's a feast undated yet | A |
Both our true lives hold it fast | B |
The first day we ever met | A |
What a great day came and passed | B |
Unknown then but known at last | B |
- | |
And we met You knew not me | C |
Mistress of your joys and fears | D |
Held my hands that held the key | C |
Of the treasure of your years | D |
Of the fountain of your tears | E |
- | |
For you knew not it was I | F |
And I knew not it was you | G |
We have learnt as days went by | F |
But a flower struck root and grew | G |
Underground and no one knew | G |
- | |
Days of days Unmarked it rose | H |
In whose hours we were to meet | I |
And forgotten passed Who knows | H |
Was earth cold or sunny Sweet | I |
At the coming of your feet | I |
- | |
One mere day we thought the measure | J |
Of such days the year fulfils | H |
Now how dearly would we treasure | J |
Something from its fields its rills | H |
And its memorable hills | H |
- | |
But one leaf of oak or lime | K |
Or one blossom from its bowers | H |
No one gathered at the time | K |
Oh to keep that day of ours | H |
By one relic of its flowers | H |
