The Divine Privilege Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD BBBB EBEB FGFG HIHI

Lord where are Thy prerogativesA
Why men have more than Thou hast keptB
The king rewards remits forgivesA
The poet to a throne has steptB
-
And Thou despoiled hast given awayC
Worship to men success to strifeD
Thy glory to the heavenly dayC
And made Thy sun the lord of lifeD
-
Is one too precious to impartB
One property reserved to ChristB
One cherished grappled to that heartB
To be alone the SacrificedB
-
O Thou who lovest to redeemE
One whom I know lies sore oppressedB
Thou wilt not suffer me to dreamE
That I can bargain for her restB
-
Seven hours I swiftly sleep while sheF
Measures the leagues of dark awakeG
O that my dewy eyes might beF
Parched by a vigil for her sakeG
-
But O rejected O in vainH
I cannot give who would not keepI
I cannot buy I cannot gainH
I cannot give her half my sleepI
