THE POET SINGS TO HER POETA
-
O poet of the time to beB
My conqueror I began for theeB
Enter into thy poet's painC
And take the riches of the rainC
And make the perfect year for meB
-
Thou unto whom my lyre shall fallD
Whene'er thou comest hear my callD
O keep the promise of my laysE
Take the sweet parable of my daysE
I trust thee with the aim of allD
-
And if thy thoughts unfold from meB
Know that I too have hints of theeB
Dim hopes that come across my mindF
In the rare days of warmer windF
And tones of summer in the seaB
-
And I have set thy paths I guideG
Thy blossoms on the wild hillsideG
And I thy bygone poet shareH
The flowers that throng thy feet whereH
I led thy feet before I diedG
