The Turning Of The Tide Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBAAACBBC

Storm strong with all the bitter heart of hateA
Smote England now nineteen dark years agoB
As when the tide's full wrath in seaward flowB
Smites and bears back the swimmer Fraud and fateA
Were leagued against her fear was fain to prateA
Of honour in dishonour pride brought lowB
And humbleness whence holiness must growB
And greatness born of shame to be so greatA
The winter day that withered hope and prideA
Shines now triumphal on the turning tideA
That sets once more our trust in freedom freeC
That leaves a ruthless and a truthless foeB
And all base hopes that hailed his cause laid lowB
And England's name a light on land and seaC
