The Lost Battle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIHI JKJKLMLM NONOGKGK

It is not over yet the fightA
Where those immortal dreamers failedB
They stormed the citadels of nightA
And the night praised them and prevailedB
So long ago the cause was lostC
We scarce distinguish friend from foeD
But if the dead can help it mostE
The armies of the dead will growD
-
The world has all our banners nowF
And filched our watchwords for its ownG
The world has crowned the ' rebel's ' browF
And millions crowd his lordly throneG
The masks have altered Names are namesH
They praise the 'truth' that is not trueI
The ' rebel' that the world acclaimsH
Is not the rebel Shelley knewI
-
We may not build that CommonwealJ
We may not reach the goal we setK
But there's a flag they dare not stealJ
Forward It is not over yetK
We shall be dust and under dustL
Before we end that ancient wrongM
But there's a sword that cannot rustL
And where's the death can touch a songM
-
So when our bodies rot in earthN
The singing souls that once were oursO
Weaponed with light and helmed with mirthN
Shall front the kingdoms and the powersO
The ancient lie is on its throneG
And half the living still forgetK
But since the dead are all our ownG
Courage it is not over yetK
