But where's the brown drifter that went out aloneA
Roll and go and fare you wellB
Was her name Peggy Nutten That name is my ownA
Fare you well my sailorC
They sang in the dark Let her go Let her goD
And she sailed to the West where the broad waters flowD
And the others come back but the bitter winds blowD
Ah fare you well my sailorC
-
The women at evening they wave and they cheerE
Roll and go and fare you wellB
They're waiting to welcome their lads at the pierE
Fare you well my sailorC
They're all coming home in the twilight belowD
But there's one little boat Let her go Let her goD
She carried my heart and a heart for the foeD
Ah fare you well my sailorC
-
The Nell and the Maggie the Ruth and the JoanA
Roll and go and fare you wellB
They come to their namesakes and leave me aloneA
Fare you well my sailorC
And names are kep' dark for the spies mustn't knowD
But they'll look in my face an' I think it will showD
Peggy Nutten's my name Let her go let her goD
Ah fare you well my sailorC
