A Prayer In Time Of War Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM

The war will change many things in art and life and among them it is to be hoped many of our own ideas as to what is and what is not intellectualA
-
Thou whose deep ways are in the seaB
Whose footsteps are not knownC
To night a world that turned from TheeB
Is waiting at Thy ThroneC
-
The towering Babels that we raisedD
Where scoffing sophists brawlE
The little Antichrists we praisedD
The night is on them allE
-
The fool hath said The fool hath saidF
And we who deemed him wiseG
We who believed that Thou wast deadF
How should we seek Thine eyesG
-
How should we seek to Thee for powerH
Who scorned Thee yesterdayI
How should we kneel in this dread hourH
Lord teach us how to prayI
-
Grant us the single heart once moreJ
That mocks no sacred thingK
The Sword of Truth our fathers woreJ
When Thou wast Lord and KingK
-
Let darkness unto darkness tellL
Our deep unspoken prayerM
For while our souls in darkness dwellL
We know that Thou art thereM
