Prayer Before Battle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEDFGHIJBKLDMNDOP QRST

The troops are singing fervently each for himselfA
God protect me from misfortuneB
Father Son and Holy SpiritC
That no grenades strike meD
That the bastards our enemiesE
Do not catch me do not shoot meD
That I don't die like a dogF
For the dear fatherlandG
Look I would like to go on livingH
Milk cows bang girlsI
And beat the bastard SeppJ
Get drunk oftenB
Until my blessed deathK
Look I eagerly and gladly reciteL
Seven rosaries dailyD
If you God in your graceM
Would kill my friend Huber or MeierN
And not meD
But if the worst should comeO
Let me not be too badly woundedP
Send me a slight leg woundQ
A small injury to the armR
So that I may return as a heroS
With a story to tellT
