The Valley Of The San Miguel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFG HIJIKELG MNONPEQG RSTSUEVG TTWTXETG

In the golden West by fond Nature blestA
Lies a vale which my heart holds dearB
Where the zephyr blows from eternal snowsC
And tempers the atmosphereB
Where the torrent falls o'er the mountain wallsD
As its thunderous echoes thrillE
Where the sparkling mist by the rainbow kissedF
Decks the Valley of San MiguelG
-
Where the birds of spring in their season singH
Their spontaneous melodiesI
Where the columbine and the stately pineJ
Stand quivering in the breezeI
Where the aspen tall hugs the trachyte wallK
And the wild rose bedecks the hillE
Where the willows weep and their vigils keepL
On the banks of the San MiguelG
-
Where the mountains high cleave the azure skyM
With their turrets so bleak and grayN
Where the morning light crowns the dizzy heightO
At the break of the summer's dayN
Where the crags look down with an austere frownP
O'er the valley so calm and stillE
Where the mesas blue blend their dreamy hueQ
With the skies of the San MiguelG
-
Where the mountains hold a vast wealth of goldR
In the quartz ledge and placer barS
Where the hills resound with the constant soundT
Of the stamp mill's battering jarS
Where the waters dash with the rhythmic splashU
Of the cascade and mountain rillE
As they laugh and flow to the lands belowV
Through the turbulent San MiguelG
-
Where the shadows glide in the eventideT
As the sun to nocturnal restT
With the dazzling rays of a world ablazeW
Sinks into the distant westT
When the yellow leaf of existence briefX
Brings the hour when the pulse is stillE
May my ashes rest in the golden WestT
On the banks of the San MiguelG
