The Miner Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBADDDB ABEEBAFFFB ABGGBAHIIB ABJJBAKKKB

Clink Clink ClinkA
The song of the hammer and drillB
At the sound of the whistle so shrill and clearC
He must leave the wife and the children dearC
In his cabin upon the hillB
Clink Clink ClinkA
But the arms that deliver the sturdy strokeD
Ere the shift is done may be crushed or brokeD
Or the life may succumb to the gas and smokeD
Which the underground caverns fillB
-
Clink Clink ClinkA
The song of the hammer and drillB
As he toils in the shaft in the stope or raiseE
'Mid dangers which lurk but elude the gazeE
His nerves with no terrors thrillB
Clink Clink ClinkA
For the heart of the miner is strong and braveF
Though the rocks may fall and the shaft may caveF
And become his dungeon if not his graveF
He braves every thought of illB
-
Clink Clink ClinkA
The song of the hammer and drillB
But the heart which is beating in unisonG
With the steady stroke e'er the shift is doneG
May be cold and forever stillB
Clink Clink ClinkA
He may reap the harvest of danger sowedH
The hole which he drills he may never loadI
For the powder may e'en in his hand explodeI
To mangle if not to killB
-
Clink Clink ClinkA
The song of the hammer and drillB
Facing dangers more grim than the cannon's mouthJ
Breathing poisons more foul than the swamps of the southJ
In their tropical fens distillB
Clink Clink ClinkA
Thus the battle he fights for his daily breadK
Thus our gold and our silver our iron and leadK
Cost us lives as true as our blood is redK
And probably always willB
