Suggested By A Mountain Eagle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF CGCG AFAF HIHI IJIJ

I gazed at the azure hued mantle of heavenA
The measureless depths of ethereal spaceB
I gazed at the clouds so invisibly drivenA
And an eagle which wheeled with symmetrical graceB
-
I gazed at that eagle majestically wheelingC
With dignity born of the free mountain airD
I envied that bird with an envious feelingC
Which springs from a heart that is shackled with careD
-
I envied that eagle which bowed to no masterE
But soared at his will through the ambient skiesF
Defiant of danger and scorning disasterE
He screamed at the cliffs which re echoed his criesF
-
I envied that bird on that fair summer morningC
When nature lay decked with spontaneous artG
As he circled with aspect defiant and scorningC
And perched on a pinnacle's loftiest partG
-
And scanning the scene with a stern indecisionA
He spread his dark wings with intuitive criesF
And sped till acute and inquisitive visionA
Discerned but a movable speck in the skiesF
-
When the shades of the evening so listless and drearyH
Descend on the valley his wing never flagsI
As through the dark shadows he soars to his eyerieH
Which nestles among the impregnable cragsI
-
Ah fain would I rise on thy feathery pinionsI
Above the material cares of the dayJ
And float over earth's most enchanting dominionsI
As clouds by the zephyrs are wafted awayJ
