Shall Our Memories Live When The Sod Rolls Above Us? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF CGCG

Shall our memories live when the sod rolls above usA
And marks our last home with a mouldering heapB
Shall the voices of those who profess that they love usA
E'er mention our names as we dreamlessly sleepB
-
Will their eyes ever dim at some fond recollectionC
Or their hands ever plant a small flower o'er the breastD
Or will they gaze with a sad circumspectionC
At the tablets which tell of our last solemn restD
-
Ah soon shall the hearts which our memories cherishE
Forget as they strive with the cares of their ownF
And even the last dim remembrance shall perishE
As we peacefully slumber unwept and unknownF
-
But if our lives though of transient durationC
Are filled with some work in humanity's nameG
Some uplifting effort or self immolationC
Our memories shall live in the temples of FameG
