A Request Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHIHWhen close by my bed the Death Angel shall stand | A |
And deliver his summons at last | B |
When my brow feels the chill of his cold clammy hand | A |
And mortality's struggles are past | B |
When my pain throbbing temples with death sweat are cold | C |
And the spirit its strivings shall cease | D |
As with muscular shrug it relaxes its hold | C |
And the suffering clay is at peace | D |
- | |
E'er my spirit shall plunge through the shadowy vale | E |
My lips shall this wish have expressed | F |
That all which remains of mortality frail | E |
In some fair enclosure may rest | F |
Where disorganized this pale form shall sustain | G |
The fragrant and beautiful flowers | H |
And reproduce beauty again and again | I |
Through nature's grand organic powers | H |
