A Request Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHIH| When close by my bed the Death Angel shall stand | A |
| And deliver his summons at last | B |
| When my brow feels the chill of his cold clammy hand | A |
| And mortality's struggles are past | B |
| When my pain throbbing temples with death sweat are cold | C |
| And the spirit its strivings shall cease | D |
| As with muscular shrug it relaxes its hold | C |
| And the suffering clay is at peace | D |
| - | |
| E'er my spirit shall plunge through the shadowy vale | E |
| My lips shall this wish have expressed | F |
| That all which remains of mortality frail | E |
| In some fair enclosure may rest | F |
| Where disorganized this pale form shall sustain | G |
| The fragrant and beautiful flowers | H |
| And reproduce beauty again and again | I |
| Through nature's grand organic powers | H |
