To The Muse Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH IJKL MLNO PHQH ARRR DRST FURR

In your hidden memoriesA
There are fatal tidings of doomB
A curse on sacred traditionsC
A desecration of happinessD
-
And a power so alluringE
That I am ready to repeat the rumourF
That you have brought angels down from heavenG
Enticing them with your beautyH
-
And when you mock at faithI
That pale greyish purple haloJ
Which I once saw beforeK
Suddenly begins to shine above youL
-
Are you evil or good You are altogether from another worldM
They say strange things about youL
For some you are the Muse and a miracleN
For me you are torment and hellO
-
I do not know why in the hour of dawnP
When no strength was left to meH
I did not perish but caught sight of your faceQ
And begged you to comfort meH
-
I wanted us to be enemiesA
Why then did you make me a presentR
Of a flowery meadow and of the starry firmamentR
The whole curse of your beautyR
-
Your fearful caresses were more treacherousD
Than the northern nightR
More intoxicating than the golden champagne of AS
Briefer than a gypsy woman's loveT
-
And there was a fatal pleasureF
In trampling on cherished and holy thingsU
And this passion bitter as wormwoodR
Was a frenzied delight for the heartR
