Snow Maiden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC ADAD EFGH IJIJ KLML NONO

She hailed from a very distant countryA
Nocturnal child of ancient timesB
She had no kin to greet her entryA
Not even skies with a welcome shineC
-
And just the Neva s faithful sentryA
The sphinx with an indented faceD
Under the blizzard fierce and wintryA
s reminiscent of her birthplaceD
-
And when the tempest showers snowflakesE
Upon her shoulders hair and breastF
Nocturnal Egypt wakes her heartacheG
In the midst of northern fog and mistH
-
My hometown gray and distantI
Its wind and chill and gloom and rainJ
With faith so unexplained and ferventI
She had received as her domainJ
-
She fell in love with regal buildingsK
At rest in the stillness of the nightL
And peaceful cozy light in the windowsM
Became one with her inner sightL
-
She recognized its morning frownN
Its mansions lights and snowy twirlO
This whole unfathomable townN
She knew unfathomable girlO
