The Elms Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDC EFGEFE

Fine as the dust of plumy fountains blowingA
Across the lanterns of a revelling nightB
The tiny leaves of April's earliest growingA
Powder the trees so vaporously lightB
They seem to float billows of emerald foamC
Blown by the South on its bright airy tideD
Seeming less trees than things beatifiedD
Come from the world of thought which was their homeC
-
For a while only Rooted strong and fastE
Soon will they lift towards the summer skyF
Their mountain mass of clotted greeneryG
Their immaterial season quickly pastE
They grow opaque and therefore needs must dieF
Since every earth to earth returns at lastE
