Poem Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL

Books and a coloured skein of thoughts were mineA
And magic words lay ripening in my soulB
Till their much whispered music turned a wineA
Whose subtlest power was all in my controlB
-
These things were mine and they were real for meC
As lips and darling eyes and a warm breastD
For I could love a phrase a melodyC
Like a fair woman worshipped and possessedD
-
I scorned all fire that outward of the eyesE
Could kindle passion scorned yet was afraidF
Feared and yet envied those more deeply wiseE
Who saw the bright earth beckon and obeyedF
-
But a time came when turning full of hateG
And weariness from my remembered themesH
I wished my poet's pipe could modulateG
Beauty more palpable than words and dreamsH
-
All loveliness with which an act informsI
The dim uncertain chaos of desireJ
Is mine to day it touches me it warmsI
Body and spirit with its outward fireJ
-
I am mine no more I have become a partK
Of that great earth that draws a breath and stirsL
To meet the spring But I could wish my heartK
Were still a winter of frosty gossamersL
