Untitled Poem - I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHDIJKLMNOO

Once one of my students read a book we hadA
She was doing a history assignment onB
the decline and fall of the Roman EmpireC
and crying When I asked her whyD
she said Because All those people diedE
I said that if you start to cry for the deadF
You won t have much time for anything elseG
Besides after all the city people were killedH
or died off because their cultures got too highD
the barbarians kept some peasants aliveI
for their food value Some barbarian rapedJ
some peasant woman who producedK
a child who ultimately produced youL
and me so there is this family continuityM
so don t cry it s obvious look aroundN
This is the reason why we AmericansO
are a nation of peasants and barbariansO
