To Mr. And Mrs. A. M. T Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABABCDCDEFEFEGEFHI HIJKJKJKLMLMNONOIPIP QCQCQRRRRRBRBSRTR| Just when the gentle hand of spring | A |
| Came fringing the trees with bud and leaf | B |
| And when the blades the warm suns bring | A |
| Were given glad promise of golden sheaf | B |
| Just when the birds began to sing | A |
| Joy hymns after their winter's grief | B |
| I wandered weary to a place | C |
| Tired of toil I sought for rest | D |
| Where Nature wore her mildest grace | C |
| I went where I was more than guest | D |
| Strange tall trees rose as if they fain | E |
| Would wear as crowns the clouds of skies | F |
| The sad winds swept with low refrain | E |
| Through branches breathing softest sighs | F |
| And o'er the field and down the lane | E |
| Sweet flowers the dreams of Paradise | G |
| Bloomed up into this world of pain | E |
| Where all that's fairest soonest dies | F |
| And 'neath the trees a little stream | H |
| Went winding slowly round and round | I |
| Just like a poet's mystic dream | H |
| With here a silence there a sound | I |
| The lowly ground beneath the sheen | J |
| Of March day suns now dim now bright | K |
| Now emeralds of golden green | J |
| In flashing or in fading light | K |
| And here and there throughout the scene | J |
| The timid wild flowers met the sight | K |
| While over all the sun and shade | L |
| Swept like a strangely woven veil | M |
| Folding the flowers that else might fade | L |
| Guarding young rosebuds from the gale | M |
| And blossoms of most varied hue | N |
| Bedecked the forest everywhere | O |
| While valleys wore the robes of blue | N |
| Bright woven by the violets fair | O |
| And there was gladness all around | I |
| It was a place so fair to see | P |
| And yet so simple there I found | I |
| How sweet a quiet home may be | P |
| Four children and thro' all the day | Q |
| They flung their laughter o'er the place | C |
| Bright as the flowers in happy May | Q |
| The children shed a sweet pure grace | C |
| Around this quiet home and they | Q |
| To father and to mother brought | R |
| The smiles of purest love unsought | R |
| It was a happy happy spot | R |
| Too dear to be fore'er forgot | R |
| Farewell sweet place I came as guest | R |
| From toil in thee I found relief | B |
| I found in thee a home and rest | R |
| But ah the days are far too brief | B |
| Farewell I go but with me come | S |
| Sweet memories that long will last | R |
| I'll think of thee as of a home | T |
| That stands forever in my past | R |
