The tears that trickled down our eyesA
They do not touch the earth to dayB
But soar like angels to the skiesA
And like the angels may not dieC
For ah our immortalityD
Flows thro' each tear sounds in each sighC
-
What waves of tears surge o'er the deepE
Of sorrow in our restless soulsF
And they are strong not weak who weepE
Those drops from out the sea that rollsF
Within their hearts forevermoreG
Without a depth without a shoreG
-
But ah the tears that are not weptH
The tears that never outward fallI
The tears that grief for years has keptH
Within us they are best of allI
The tears our eyes shall never knowJ
Are dearer than the tears that flowJ
-
Each night upon earth's flowers belowJ
The dew comes down from darkest skiesA
And every night our tears of woeJ
Go up like dews to ParadiseK
To keep in bloom and make more fairG
The flowers of crowns we yet shall wearG
-
For ah the surest way to GodL
Is up the lonely streams of tearsM
That flow when bending 'neath His rodL
And fill the tide of earthly yearsN
On laughter's billows hearts are tossedO
On waves of tears no heart is lostO
-
Flow on ye tears and bear me homeP
Flow not ye tears of deeper woeJ
Flow on ye tears that are but foamP
Of deeper waves that will not flowJ
A little while I reach the shoreG
Where tears flow not forevermoreG
