Sunless Days Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IFIF J

They come to ev'ry life sad sunless daysA
With not a light all o'er their clouded skiesB
And thro' the dark we grope along our waysA
With hearts fear filled and lips low breathing sighsB
-
What is the dark Why cometh it and whenceC
Why does it banish all the bright awayD
How does it weave a spell o'er soul and senseC
Why falls the shadow where'er gleams the rayD
-
Hast felt it I have felt it and I knowE
How oft and suddenly the shadows rollF
From out the depths of some dim realm of woeE
To wrap their darkness round the human soulF
-
Those days are darker than the very nightG
For nights have stars and sleep and happy dreamsH
But these days bring unto the spirit sightG
The mysteries of gloom until it seemsH
-
The light is gone forever and the darkI
Hangs like a pall of death above the soulF
Which rocks amid the gloom like storm swept barkI
And sinks beneath a sea where tempests rollF
-
-
Winter on the AtlanticJ
