Sweet heaven's smileA
Gleamed o'er the isleA
That gems the dreamy seaB
One far gone dayC
And flash'd its rayC
More than a thousand years awayC
Pure Bridget over theeB
-
White as the snowD
That falls belowD
To earth on Christmas nightE
Thy pure face shoneF
On every oneG
For Christ's sweet grace thy heart had wonG
To make thy birth land brightE
-
A cloud hangs o'erH
Thy Erin's shoreI
Ah God 'twas always soD
Ah virgin fairJ
Thy heaven pray'rK
Will help thy people in their careJ
And save them from their woeD
-
Thou art in lightE
They are in lightE
Thou hast a crown they a chainL
The very sodM
Made theirs by GodM
Is still by tyrants' footsteps trodM
They pray but all in vainL
-
Thou near Christ's throneF
Dost hear the moanF
Of all their hearts that grieveN
Ah virgin sweetO
Kneel at His feetO
Where angels' hymns thy prayer shall greetO
And pray for them this eveN
