Sea Dreamings Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHFF HAHAII JBJBFF KAKALL

To day a bird on wings as white as foamA
That crests the blue gray waveB
With the vesper light upon its breast flew homeA
Seaward The God who gaveB
To the birds the virgin wings of snowC
Somehow telleth them the ways they goC
-
Unto the Evening went the white winged birdD
Gray clouds hung round the WestE
And far away the tempest's tramp was heardD
The bird flew for a restE
Away from the grove out to the seaF
Is it only a bird's mysteryF
-
Nay nay lone bird I watched thy wings of whiteG
That cleft thy waveward wayH
Past the evening and swift into the nightG
Out of the calm bright dayH
And thou didst teach me bird of the seaF
More than one human heart's historyF
-
Only men's hearts tho' God shows each its wayH
That leadeth hence to homeA
Unlike the wild sea birds somehow go astrayH
Seeking in the far foamA
Of this strange world's tempest trampled mainI
A resting place but they seek in vainI
-
Only the bird can rest upon the deepJ
And sleep upon the waveB
And dream its peaceful dreams where wild winds sweepJ
And sweet the God who gaveB
The birds a rest place on the restless seaF
But this my heart is not His way with theeF
-
Over the world ah passion's tempests rollK
And every fleck of foamA
Whitens the place where sank some sin wrecked soulK
That never shall reach homeA
Ah the tranquil shore of God's sweet calm graceL
My heart is thy only resting placeL
