Rest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EBEB FGFG HBHB IBJB KBKB LBMB

My feet are wearied and my hands are tiredA
My soul oppressedB
And I desire what I have long desiredA
Rest only restB
-
'Tis hard to toil when toil is almost vainC
In barren waysD
'Tis hard to sow and never garner grainC
In harvest daysD
-
The burden of my days is hard to bearE
But God knows bestB
And I have prayed but vain has been my prayerE
For rest sweet restB
-
'Tis hard to plant in Spring and never reapF
The Autumn yieldG
'Tis hard to till and 'tis tilled to weepF
O'er fruitless fieldG
-
And so I cry a weak and human cryH
So heart oppressedB
And so I sigh a weak and human sighH
For rest for restB
-
My way has wound across the desert yearsI
And cares infestB
My path and through the flowing of hot tearsJ
I pine for restB
-
'Twas always so when but a child I laidK
On mother's breastB
My wearied little head e'en then I prayedK
As now for restB
-
And I am restless still 'twill soon be o'erL
For down the WestB
Life's sun is setting and I see the shoreM
Where I shall restB
