Peace! Be Still Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EAEA FGFG HIHI ADAD H

Sometimes the Saviour sleeps and it is darkA
For oh His eyes are this world's only lightB
And when they close wild waves rush on His barkA
And toss it through the dead hours of the nightB
-
So He slept once upon an eastern lakeC
In Peter's bark while wild waves raved at willD
A cry smote on Him and when He did wakeC
He softly whispered and the sea grew stillD
-
It is a mystery but He seems to sleepE
As erst he slept in Peter's waved rocked barkA
A storm is sweeping all across the deepE
While Pius prays like Peter in the darkA
-
The sky is darkened and the shore is farF
The tempest's strength grows fiercer every hourG
Upon the howling deep there shines no starF
Why sleeps He still Why does He hide His powerG
-
Fear not a holy hand is on the helmH
That guides the bark thro' all the tempest's wrathI
Quail not the wildest waves can never whelmH
The ship of faith upon its homeward pathI
-
The Master sleeps His pilot guards the barkA
He soon will wake and at His mighty willD
The light will shine where all before was darkA
The wild waves still remember Peace be stillD
-
-
RomeH
