Life's Vesper bells are ringingA
In the temple of my heartB
And yon sunset sure is singingA
Nunc dimittis Now departB
Ah the eve is golden cloudedC
But to morrow's sun shall shineD
On this weary body shroudedC
But my soul doth not repineD
-
Let me see the sun descendingA
I will see his light no moreE
For my life this eve is endingA
And to morrow on the shoreE
That is fair and white and goldenD
I will meet my God and yeF
Will forget not all the oldenD
Happy hours ye spent with meF
-
I am glad that I am goingA
What a strange and sweet delightG
Is thro' all my being flowingA
When I know that sure to nightG
I will pass from earth and meet HimH
Whom I loved thro' all the yearsI
Who will crown me when I greet HimH
And will kiss away my tearsJ
-
My last sun haste hurry westwardK
In the dark of this to nightG
My poor soul that hastens rest wardL
With the Lamb' will find the lightG
Death is coming and I hear himH
Soft and stealthy cometh heF
But I do not believe I fear himH
God is now so close to meF
-
-
-
Fell the daylight's fading glimmerM
On a face so wan and whiteG
Brighter was his soul while dimmerM
Grew the shadows of the nightG
And he died and God was near himH
I knelt by him to forgiveN
And I sometimes seem to hear himH
Whisper Live as I did liveO
