Out Of The Depths Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDAA AEEFFGGAA AHHIIJKAA ABBLLMHHH

Lost Lost LostA
The cry went up from a seaB
The waves were wild with an awful wrathC
Not a light shone down on the lone ship's pathC
The clouds hung lowD
Lost Lost LostA
Rose wild from the hearts of the tempest tossedA
-
Lost Lost LostA
The cry floated over the wavesE
Far over the pitiless wavesE
It smote on the dark and it rended the cloudsF
The billows below them were weaving white shroudsF
Out of the foam of the surgeG
And the wind voices chanted a dirgeG
Lost Lost LostA
Wailed wilder the lips of the tempest tossedA
-
Lost Lost LostA
Not the sign of a hope was nighH
In the sea in the air or the skyH
And the lifted faces were wan and whiteI
There was nothing without them but storm and nightI
And nothing within but fearJ
But far to a Father's earK
Lost Lost LostA
Floated the wail of the tempest tossedA
-
Lost Lost LostA
Out of the depths of the seaB
Out of the night and the seaB
And the waves and the winds of the storm were hushedL
And the sky with the gleams of the stars was flushedL
Saved Saved SavedM
And a calm and a joyous cryH
Floated up through the starry skyH
In the dark in the storm Our Father is nighH
