Mother's Way Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFGHIDI CJKJCIDI CLCLAICI FIMICI

Oft within our little cottageA
As the shadows gently fallB
While the sunlight touches softlyC
One sweet face upon the wallB
Do we gather close togetherD
And in hushed and tender toneE
Ask each other's full forgivenessF
For the wrong that each has doneG
Should you wonder why this customH
At the ending of the dayI
Eye and voice would quickly answerD
It was once our mother's wayI
-
If our home be bright and cheeryC
If it holds a welcome trueJ
Opening wide its door of greetingK
To the many not the fewJ
If we share our father's bountyC
With the needy day by dayI
'Tis because our hearts rememberD
This was ever mother's wayI
-
Sometimes when our hands grow wearyC
Or our tasks seem very longL
When our burdens look too heavyC
And we deem the right all wrongL
Then we gain a new fresh courageA
And we rise to proudly sayI
Let us do our duty bravelyC
This was our dear mother's wayI
-
Then we keep her memory preciousF
While we never cease to prayI
That at last when lengthening shadowsM
Mark the evening of our dayI
They may find us waiting calmlyC
To go home our mother's wayI
