After Seeing Pius Ix Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDDEEFFGG

I saw his face to day he looks a chiefA
Who fears not human rage nor human guileB
Upon his cheeks the twilight of a griefA
But in that grief the starlight of a smileB
Deep gentle eyes with drooping lids that tellC
They are the homes where tears of sorrow dwellC
A low voice strangely sweet whose very toneD
Tells how these lips speak oft with God aloneD
I kissed his hand I fain would kiss his feetE
No no he said and then in accents sweetE
His blessing fell upon my bended headF
He bade me rise a few more words he saidF
Then took me by the hand the while he smiledG
And going whispered Pray for me my childG
