A Child's Wish Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGFG AHAH FIAI EBEB

Before an AltarA
-
-
-
I wish I were the little keyB
That locks Love's Captive inC
And lets Him out to go and freeB
A sinful heart from sinC
-
I wish I were the little bellD
That tinkles for the HostE
When God comes down each day to dwellD
With hearts He loves the mostE
-
I wish I were the chalice fairF
That holds the Blood of LoveG
When every flash lights holy prayerF
Upon its way aboveG
-
I wish I were the little flowerA
So near the Host's sweet faceH
Or like the light that half an hourA
Burns on the shrine of graceH
-
I wish I were the altar whereF
As on His mother's breastI
Christ nestles like a child fore'erA
In Eucharistic restI
-
But oh my God I wish the mostE
That my poor heart may beB
A home all holy for each HostE
That comes in love to meB
