Ashes On The Ground Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GHIHJKE LMIBFE NDOCPE MMQERN

Once when we were kidsA
Guileless and pure of heartB
The stars were distant wondersC
We had our happinessD
But like ashes on the groundE
Everything was swept awayF
-
Once the night seemed foreverG
We played under the moonlightH
Listening to moonlight storiesI
And the songs of the nightH
Our hearts were untaintedJ
Before everything disappearedK
Like ashes on the groundE
-
Once before we got stained by mortal dustL
Lots of dreams were worth keepingM
We built our fantasiesI
With a child's pure heartB
Before everything drifted awayF
Like ashes on the groundE
-
Once before we grew upN
We wanted our friends to win with usD
We were happy for their successesO
And saddened by their failuresC
But the cruel nature of the worldP
Swept it all away like ashes on the groundE
-
Once in the beauty of the morningM
We had a sense of belongingM
No peer pressure no hateQ
But like ashes on the groundE
It's all gone nowR
Because we grew upN

Poet's note: I wrote this poem while reminiscing about our childhood when life was simple and we had love for one another, friends were real and were always there for you. I used this poem to express nostalgic feelings of childhood.
