So I Said I Am Ezra Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFAGHIJFKFFLMNFA FOFFPMQSo I said I am Ezra | A |
and the wind whipped my throat | B |
gaming for the sounds of my voice | C |
I listened to the wind | D |
go over my head and up into the night | E |
Turning to the sea I said | F |
I am Ezra | A |
but there were no echoes from the waves | G |
The words were swallowed up | H |
in the voice of the surf | I |
or leaping over the swells | J |
lost themselves oceanward | F |
Over the bleached and broken fields | K |
I moved my feet and turning from the wind | F |
that ripped sheets of sand | F |
from the beach and threw them | L |
like seamists across the dunes | M |
swayed as if the wind were taking me away | N |
and said | F |
I am Ezra | A |
As a word too much repeated | F |
falls out of being | O |
so I Ezra went out into the night | F |
like a drift of sand | F |
and splashed among the windy oats | P |
that clutch the dunes | M |
of unremembered seas | Q |
