The Young Vets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE CFCF GHGH IJIJ

We all know the face of the chap who can tellA
How he led the victorious vanB
Through whose terrible yell all the enemy fellA
Or fled from this murderous manB
-
We all know the pate of the chap who was lateC
Too late for a wound or a scarD
A year or two late for a soldierly fateC
And twenty too late for the warE
-
We all know the voice of Goliah the GreatC
Who never smelt powder you knowF
Who came to the field of battle too lateC
To give little David a showF
-
We all know the tale of the chap who delightsG
To tell all the girls he can findH
Of the terrible sights of the feuds and the fightsG
That he fought in the depths of his mindH
-
On a Century Map we all know the chapI
Who can trace his proud place without fearJ
Who claims the drum tap found him first in the gapI
Though he skulked forty miles in the rearJ
