'Tis daily this basteA
Will prosade to the faysteA
The best that Ould Oireland has seenB
The P's are but threeC
But they're plenty for meC
The Pratie the Pig the PoteenB
-
The Pratie in placeD
Has an iligant faceD
That my mouth opens wide to let inB
But like Widow MachreeC
He's so glad to see meC
That he laughs himself out of his shkinB
He's so round and so squareC
As he laughs at me thereC
That he looks loike my brother I weenB
Then I put him to coolE
On the top of a shtoolE
Till I take a wee drop of PoteenB
Then I put him to coolE
On the top of a shtoolE
Till I take a wee drop of PoteenB
-
But gourmands ahoyF
The Pig is the BoyF
Indade he's the girl to my tasteA
The form is so nateA
The lip is so swateA
That I kape her quite close to my waistA
But no cannibal IG
When I look in her eyeG
The loikes to my sister is seenB
So I piously pauseH
In the work of my jawsH
Till I take a wee drop of PoteenB
So I piously pauseH
In the work of my jawsH
Till I take a wee drop of PoteenB
-
Lave the Pratie to coolE
On the top of the shtoolE
While we master this question of shtateA
Shall I ate Shall I swigI
Musht Poteen or the PigI
Be the first or the last on my plateA
Now my grandfather's ghostA
Appears at this postA
So solemn so awful in mienB
To assist and debateA
This question of shtateA
On the subject of Pork and PoteenB
-
So he called for his mugJ
And I gave him the jugJ
Which he placed at his delicate mouthK
And he drank it all downB
Down down Derry downB
He had such a terrible drouthK
Then with jug held on highG
And Poteen in his eyeG
He says this good ghost says to meC
Hist Hist Patrick histA
And hould ye your whistA
While I shpake out this Scripture to theeC
-
'Tis Hibernian LawE
That for Oireland's ould jawE
If at pig faystes you ate shpake or swigI
If you have a great mindA
You surely will findA
The Poteen's the best part of the PigI
'Tis Hibernian LawE
That for Oireland's ould jawE
If at pig faystes you ate shpake or swigI
If you have a great mindA
You surely will findA
The Poteen's the best part of the PigI
-
So since that great dayA
Or that night I may sayA
I cook nothing else for to ateA
By the hole o' my coatA
It bates Houlahan's goatA
In putting Pat off of his fateA
So for Erin go braghC
'Tis both Gospel and LawE
For to ate or to shpake or to swigI
If you have a great mindA
You surely will findA
The Poteen's the best part of the pigI
The Poteen's the best part of the pigI
