The Good Ship "ohio." Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDBEBFBGB HBIBJBKALAMA

Swift o'er the lee when the wind flies freeA
Follows the ship OhioB
With skies o'ercast she bends to the blastC
Like a billowy bird she can fly OB
And she'll leave all behind in a whispering windD
As soft as a maiden's sigh OB
Or when o'er the Lakes the storm cloud breaksE
And the waves scoop their murderous hollowB
While the weaker ship to its mooring must slipF
And safe in a harbor wallowB
In the front of the storm she fills her white formG
And the demons of danger followB
-
O for the life 'mid the storm and the strifeH
Of sailor and storm and billowB
Far be my bed from the lubberly deadI
That sleep near the wailing willowB
But give me the grave of the mutinous waveJ
With its heaving and whistling pillowB
Down from the skies look the spectral eyesK
Of our kelpie sprite and bewailerA
And gathering in crowds by the shivering shroudsL
They croon while our cheeks grow palerA
And they sing as they sweep o'er the clamorous deepM
We love the hot heart of a sailorA
