| Breathes on the trembling sense of wan disease | B |
| So piercing to my heart their force I feel | A |

| And now along the white and level tide | D |
| They fling their melancholy music wide | D |
| Bidding me many a tender thought recall | C |
| Of summer days and those delightful years | E |
| When by my native streams in life's fair prime | F |
| The mournful magic of their mingling chime | F |
| First wak'd my wond'ring childhood into tears | G |
