Watchman What of the nightA
No light we seeB
Our souls are bruised and sickened with the sightA
Of this foul crime against humanityB
The Ways are darkC
I SEE THE MORNING LIGHTA
-
The Ways are darkC
Faith folds her wings and Hope in piteous plightA
Has dimmed her radiant lamp to feeblest sparkC
Love bleeding liesD
I SEE THE MORNING LIGHTA
-
Love bleeding liesD
Struck down by this grim fury of despightA
Which once again her Master crucifiesD
He dies againE
I SEE THE MORNING LIGHTA
-
He dies againE
By evil slain Who died for man's respiteA
By man's insensate rage again is slainF
O woful sightA
I SEE THE MORNING LIGHTA
-
Beyond the war clouds and the reddened waysD
I see the Promise of the Coming DaysD
I see His Sun arise new charged with graceD
Earth's tears to dry and all her woes effaceD
Christ lives Christ loves Christ rulesD
No more shall MightA
Though leagued with all the Forces of the NightA
Ride over Right No more shall WrongG
The world's gross agonies prolongG
Who waits His Time shall surely seeD
The triumph of His ConstancyD
When without let or bar or stayA
The coming of His Perfect DayA
Shall sweep the Powers of Night awayA
And Faith replumed for nobler flightA
And Hope aglow with radiance brightA
And Love in loveliness bedightA
SHALL GREET THE MORNING LIGHTA
