The War-makers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB BBB BCCC CDDDD DEEEEE FFEE GG HH

Who are the Makers of WarsA
The Kings of the earthB
-
And who are these Kings of the earthB
Only men not always even men of worthB
But claiming rule by right of birthB
-
And Wisdom does that come by birthB
Nay then too often the reverseC
Wise father oft has son perverseC
Solomon's son was Israel's curseC
-
Why suffer things to reason so averseC
It always has been soD
And only now does knowledge growD
To that high point where all men knowD
Who would be free must strike the blowD
-
And how long will man suffer soD
Until his soul of Freedom singsE
And strengthened by his sufferingsE
He breaks the worn out leading stringsE
And calls to stricter reckoningsE
Those costliest things unworthy KingsE
-
Not all are worthless Some with sense of dutyF
Strive to invest their lives with grace and beautyF
To such high honour But the rest self seekersE
Pride puffed out with them useless mischief makersE
-
The time is past when any man or nationG
Will meekly bear unrighteous dominationG
-
The time is come when every burden bearerH
Must in the fixing of his load be sharerH
